The Honeywell Home 5853 listens for the specific flex and audio sequence created by breaking glass, allowing one correctly placed detector to protect several windows within the same unobstructed room. Its FlexCore processor evaluates sound data in parallel for stronger false-alarm immunity and supports plate, tempered, laminated, wired, coated, and sealed insulating glass within the manufacturer-listed thicknesses.

Four sensitivity settings match the detector to the room: 25 feet at maximum, 15 feet at medium, 10 feet at low, and 5 feet at the lowest setting. The 5853 can mount on a wall or ceiling, but the microphone must retain a clear line of sight to the protected glass and should not be placed behind curtains, around a corner, or near equipment that introduces persistent vibration or loud sound. Final testing requires a compatible FG-701 glassbreak simulator.

The replaceable CR123A battery provides up to ten years of listed life, while front/back tamper, low-battery, and supervisory messages keep the panel informed.
